Web Capture Library

FULL-PAGE CAPTURE APP FOR macOS

Preserve every version of a web page

A reference page you meant to revisit disappears after a redesign.

Sound familiar? Bookmarks stop working when URLs change, while isolated screenshots often leave you wondering when you took them or which site they came from.

Web Capture Library is a macOS app that captures a page from top to bottom from just its URL and stores it in a library on your Mac.

Recapturing the same page never overwrites an earlier capture. Each one becomes a new version, so even after the site changes, you can revisit exactly how it looked before.

Recommended for People who want to keep the look of public reference pages as a personal archive they can revisit later. Not for day-to-day capture of login-required pages, or unattended site-wide archiving. Capture is always confirm-then-save; nothing is captured automatically.

A free Chrome extension is also available. Add to Chrome ↗

01 — Full-page captures

Save an entire page as a single image

Save the whole page as one image, including everything below the visible area that you would normally have to scroll to see.
Long pages can also be exported in two or three sections.

Pages with fixed or sticky menus, animations, or lazy-loaded content may not look exactly as they do in a browser. Review the page before capturing, and hide elements when needed.

Captured in vertical segments and stitched into a PNG. Capture scale can be 1x, 1.5x, or 2x; the default height limit is 25,000pt.

02 — Three-width captures

Capture desktop, tablet, and phone widths at once

One capture records multiple widths in sequence and saves them as one version. PC + phone by default; switch to all three widths or PC only in Settings.

Capture multiple widths in one pass and save them as a single version, keeping a side-by-side record of how the page looks at each breakpoint. The default is two widths (PC and phone); switch to all three widths or PC only in Settings.

03 — Capture version history

Recapture without overwriting earlier versions

Earlier captures remain when you recapture a page. They build into a version history in the order you took them. Name an important version, such as “Before redesign,” and lock it for safekeeping.

The version timeline adds one row per capture. Locked versions are excluded from automatic pruning.

04 — Compare versions

Stack captures to see what changed

Onion Skin stacks two versions and lets you move between them with an opacity slider. Misalignment and removed text appear as ghost images.

Stack captures from two versions and visually inspect what changed since the previous capture.

05 — Overlay captures

Make a capture translucent and place it over another app

Make a capture translucent and place it over another app. You can spot differences from the design right where you are working.

Open a capture in a translucent, always-on-top window and place it over the screen you are implementing.

06 — Export as video

Record a page as it scrolls

Use the recording window to scroll a page from top to bottom, record it as an MP4, and save it with that version. You can also export a GIF from the recorded MP4.

Record the page as an MP4 while it scrolls and save it with the version. A GIF can also be exported from the recorded MP4.

07 — Capture reminders

Add pages to the Capture Queue on a schedule

Set a daily, weekly, or monthly reminder. After the scheduled time passes, the page enters the Capture Queue so you do not forget it. Capture remains manual.

Set reminders daily, weekly, or monthly. After the scheduled time passes, the page enters the Capture Queue for you to capture manually.

08 — Register multiple pages

Register pages from a URL list

Find candidate URLs and register only the pages you need. Add tags manually.

Find candidates in a sitemap.xml or URL list and register only the pages you need. Even admin pages scattered across the same domain stay easy to see as one site.

09 — Open storage format

Your data is just folders and images.

Web Capture Library uses no proprietary database or file format. Captures are PNGs; metadata and extracted page text are JSON. Open everything in Finder — backup and migration are just ordinary file copies. Even if you stop using the app someday, every screenshot you've taken stays right there on your Mac. Process them with scripts, feed them to an AI — what you do with your data is up to you.

Frequently asked questions

Which operating systems are supported? Will there be a Windows version?

Web Capture Library is for macOS only. There are no plans for a Windows version.

Where is my data stored?

It is stored as JSON and PNG files in the local folder you choose.

Can I sync through the cloud?

No. Data is stored as files in a local folder, so you can use your own backup solution if needed.

Can I use it to keep archiving an entire site automatically?

It is not designed for that. To avoid placing unattended load on other servers, the app does not crawl automatically, and its intended scale is tens to hundreds of items. Use a dedicated tool for large-scale crawling.

What kinds of pages capture well?

Pages with fixed or sticky menus, heavy JavaScript, or lazy loading may not match the live browser view. Login state and cookies are not retained, so it is not suited to day-to-day capture of login-required pages.

How is this different from a regular screenshot app?

It prioritizes version history per URL, multi-width (PC / tablet / phone) captures, version comparison, and a local reference library over speed. Capture is confirm-then-save; there is no unattended automatic capture.

How much storage does it use?

A version is typically a few MB to 10 MB (lightweight PNG, three widths). A page captured daily uses roughly 2 GB per year; captured weekly, about 300 MB. Adjust the capture widths, storage format, quality, and height limit in Settings.

How much does it cost?

The price is JPY 2,500 (tax included) as a one-time purchase. Updates we provide for the 1.x series are included at no additional charge. It is currently sold through the Mac App Store. Buy on the Mac App Store
